Since I was a little girl, I have had a total aversion to commercial toothpaste. I think my dad put me on to using salt way back then so that’s what I used. Once I discovered alternative “healthy” toothpastes I used those. Even better I’ve finally made my own. There’s no hidden nasties and it tastes good. It’s made of only 5 ingredients and they are all truly natural and make my mouth, teeth and gums feel super clean and cared for. Jethro my lovely young friend at our local Hammer hardware store gave me the recipe and I won’t be going back to purchasing store bought any time soon.
Equal parts of each ingredient. Make sure you use good salt and good vinegar. I used my own apple cider vinegar of course 🙂
Mix them together and store in a container that you can dunk your toothbrush in. It’s recommended that each member of the family has their own container as toothbrushes can carry a few nasties. It took me a few tries before I got used to the texture but now I’m loving taste and texture. I’ve also taken to oil pulling most mornings before I eat my breakfast. I use organic coconut oil for this. It’s worth doing for maintaining healthy gums. A few friends who do this have mentioned their easily bleeding gums have strengthened after a few sessions of this, and some peops experience a reduction in plaque build-up. Use a teaspoon of a good organic oil and swish around in your mouth for about 15 minutes first thing in the morning. You might have to do it for a lesser time when you start as it does take a little practice. Make sure not to swallow the oil as it can draw bacteria and toxins out of your gums. When you are done spit it out and clean your teeth or swish and spit some clean water to get rid of any residue. Have fun 🙂
