Best Red Sauce

This is the perfect red sauce, it was taught to me rather a long time ago by my very first boyfriend whose parents were Italian. It's ready in half an hour but has enough depth to satisfy. I like to serve this sauce with my Gnocchi alla Romana

Ala's Chicken Noodle soup

Last week my youngest, who is twenty three years young and a nurse to boot, rang me up for this family recipe. She was getting a cold and this was the medicine she was after. It really only has six ingredients so very quick and easy to make but serves a mighty punch. I've just eaten a bowl as I made it today. And yes I am fully satisfied, my tummy is full and my nose and head are clear. Here's why.

Oh how I love garlic, and salt, and oil. I can't imagine preparing food without them. Good organic garlic, mineral rich sun-dried sea salt and cold-pressed oil. Organic avocado oil drizzled over fresh salads straight out of the garden. Whole roasted garlic cloves nestled amongst crunchy olive-oiled potates and sprinkled with a good grainy salt. We roasted a chicken last night. Pushed a lemon inside the cavity, stuffed a huge handful of fresh sage leaves and whole garlic cloves under the skin, rubbed it over with olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper. Accompanied by steamed broccolli and potatoes, garden fresh,with a flavoursome gravy made from scratch, simple and delicious. What works for me are classic combinatons of fresh herbs and seasonal produce that I can grow myself. I guess you could call me a peasant, but I reckon I eat food fit for a queen! To grow some of your own food is not that difficult. Gardening is another one of those basic skills that we have handed over to the experts. Growing our food is our birth-right. More than just a lemon drink

When you are getting a cold, a sore throat, a cough or the flu this drink is wonderful. I make it in a huge mug and have one mug at least three times a day, if am suffering from any of the above. It feels so good to get this down you. Soothing, warming and definately healing. The trick is to get into a nice warm bed after drinking and you will work up a bit of heat and a sweat, which means your body is getting rid of toxins and also helping to kill the bugs. Garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic, and lemons a source of Vitamin C. Honey soothes and heals raw tissue such as a sore throat. For more details read the full post
